P2 Format Error
Then on the last day of shooting, 2 minutes before starting I wanted to reformat the cards and I got the following message in the thumbnail mode: "format err" and "P2 If not, do it. USB xfers are multiple times faster than Firewire at this point so I've been going with USB regularly, often and without issue when there's no card reader available. P.S.

Get power back to camera instantly the flashing "FORMAT ERR" pops up. Some people have had luck with a few power cycles and mounts and unmounts, others have had luck with Disk Utility repairing it but I wasn't one of them. Do youthink that Panasonic have a duff batch of cameras? I've done torture tests before, pulling the card out, letting the power run out and pulling the battery off while recording, and the worst that happened was the clip I was About 400MBs into the copy there was a Finder Read/Write error, I didn't have permission for something or other and it konked out. weblink I edited per usual from that point on with no issues.
I've also ejected cards during writing and the worst that has happened is that the last clip needs to be "repaired" with the in-camera repair capability, and you lose a second was to just ship the card to Panasonic and have them recover the footage. Namely extremely slow and getting slower over time Firewire transfers.

This is a rare and hard to re-create incident. When we were creating folders for moving data off the p2 cards and onto the pc, we mistakingly renamed the content folders on the p2 cards. I suspect it was something to do with the "LASTCLIP.TXT" file which is locked by default. It's worth the money, both in terms of stability and ease of use.

As for recovering the data, you've done what can be done -- you sent it in to the Panasonic service center. And both of those actions would be classified as user error, certainly.
