When FCE HD was written by Apple there was no PCI-Express graphics card on the market and therefore your FCE HD installation does not know anything about that new computer and PCI-Express is an extension of the PCI bus architecture, and therefore is seen by the computer as a regular PCI slot. There has been reported quite a lot of trouble with the latest Quicktime (7.04). I installed the update through Software Update, rebooted, and fired up Final Cut.
